Chair of the European Research Group

How could anyone think it was appropriate to have two consecutive questions with the same answer?

When these questions were sent for vetting, the answer to this question was given as Jacob Rees–Mogg. In fact, Rees–Mogg ceased to be Chair of the ERG around the time that he was appointed as Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council by Boris Johnson – i.e. in the summer of 2019. His former Deputy, Steve Baker – described by the Daily Mail as "a self–styled 'Brexit hardman'" – took over on 3 September, and in fact he resigned on the day after this quiz took place (25 February 2020), declaring 'the Battle for Brexit' won.

Of course, nobody knew when these questions were being prepared that Baker was about to resign. But at least one of the vetters pointed out that he had replaced Rees–Mogg as Chair of the ERG. The setters changed the question. Did they realise it was the same answer as the previous question?

Well if they did, they didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with that.

The so–called European Research Group (ERG) is a right–wing Eurosceptic focus group within the Conservative Party.
